pharaon descend à pyramides

For this operation, we worked in synergy with the Institut du Monde Arabe, the RATP and the École des Arts Décoratifs. As an extension of the successful "Pharaoh" exhibition at the IMA, we chose to magnify the visual writing of ancient Egypt (cartouches and hieroglyphs), by inscribing them in spaces typical of the metropolitan universe: right on the tiles, or by "digging" the 4 by 3 posters. All, of course, at Pyramides station.

Act 1

On the night of November 14-15, 2004, the first elements of the operation were put in place: a set of hieroglyphs, redrawn by hand by the students, was affixed to the base of the advertising posters.

Act 2

On the night of November 21-22, 2004, the names of the 16 pharaohs were revealed. For each name, one of the signs composing it was selected to be spray-painted in gold, in a deliberately disproportionate manner.

Act 3

The fresco is then cut into the thickness of the advertising posters accumulated over the weeks: after the name, the image of the pharaoh (his "body") finally appears.
